One day after receiving criticism for controversial comments regarding sexual harassment, Angela Lansbury has issued a statement firing back.
In a statement released Wednesday evening, Lansbury walked back her previous statements. "There is no excuse whatsoever for men to harass women in an abusive sexual manner," she said. "I am devastated that anyone should deem me capable of thinking otherwise."
Lansbury made her initial comments on the issue on Tuesday while speaking to the U.K.'s Radio Times magazine on Tuesday. “We have to own up to the fact that women, since time immemorial, have gone out of their way to make themselves attractive ... and unfortunately it has backfired on us — and this is where we are today,” the 92-year-old actress said. She went on to say that "we must sometimes take blame, women."
